2016 has been a pretty great year. Looking back on the year, we’ve had some wonderful moments sprinkled throughout. Sure, there’s been some dips here and there, but it’s been wonderful to think back and see how many memorable moments we had.
Here are just a few of the highlights:
Celebrating my dad and mom’s 50th anniversary. My parents are my heroes. And their marriage has been a wonderful example for me my whole life. We went to Las Vegas this year to celebrate with them and they received a very special blessing at mass. 50 years is no easy task but seeing them together, you would think they were newlyweds.
Camacho Family Sleepover. We started off 2016 with a big family sleepover at my parents’ house. And it was a blast! We hung out, napped, played games, chatted and the grandkids even made breakfast the next morning. We can’t wait to do this again.
Launching the blog. It’s no joke when I say this blog has been in the works, easily for the last seven or eight years, if not longer. Looking back and seeing a year of posts under our belt is quite an accomplishment and something I am very proud of. And I can’t wait to see what’s on the horizon.
Reading more books. This year I have read more than I have in a very long time. I’ve finished books, started new ones, continued some I started long ago and got excited to get lost in a book. I was reminded that I need to make the effort to carve out the time to do something for myself each day.
Napa trip in May. Each year we take a trip after tax season and this year it was Napa. We stayed at The Cottages of Napa Valley—a place that’s been on my must-stay-here bucket list for years. It was everything I hoped it would be and so much more. While there, Jessie attended a wine conference and it was so wonderful to see his excitement each day. It’s a very special moment when you see a loved one completely immersed in what they are meant to be doing.
Jessie passing his Level One Sommelier exam. On that note, and after months buried in books, we took a trip to Paso Robles so that Jessie could take his first sommelier exam. It wasn’t just the fact that he passed that I was so proud of, it was the fact that while waiting for his results, he was happy with how he had done and he never lost his drive and focus to continue learning about and loving wine.
My Birthday dinner with friends. We celebrated my birthday this year with a dinner at Firefly with some of my favorite people. I love this group of friends so much. We may not get together as often as we’d like, but when we do, it’s amazing! We have at least 20 years of friendship among us and we have been through so much together. Being with them to celebrate was one of the best gifts I received.
Saying YES to more fun activities. We saw more theatre, shows and concerts this year than we have in a long time. Including: Cirque du Soleil, Big Bang Theory at Paleyfest, John Williams, Once, Adele, Carrie Underwood, Ingrid Michaelson, Nightmare Before Christmas with Danny Elfman, Act of God with Sean Hayes, Harry Potter in Concert, Little Mermaid and A Drinking Game. We’ve got even more fun stuff planned for 2017!
Celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary. We went to dinner at Mastro’s and toasted to five wonderful years together. We’ve worked hard on our life as a couple as well as our individual lives. And we are so proud of all that we’ve accomplished.
Crossing things off our long-standing to-do list. I have lists for my lists. But there are some items that have been on lists for years. In 2016, we were able to cross off some of those things, especially around the house, and it’s been extremely fulfilling.
Family Solvang trip. Each year, Jessie’s grandmother puts together a week-long family trip. This year we were able to make it for a weekend and we had so much fun. We played ping-pong, celebrated a momma-to-be, went to church with family, shared meals and went wine tasting, grandmother included! We can’t wait to go again.
Jack Weekend. Jessie and I loved watching Jack over a weekend so that Jennifer and Casey could celebrate their anniversary. This little boy is full of so much joy and laughter and it was great to spend so much time with him. We made pancakes, swam, went to the movies and had so much fun together.
Buying Jessie’s car. We’ve been planning on a new car for Jessie since we got married. And to see it come true this year was amazing! There’s nothing like the feeling of driving the car off the lot and to see the smile on his face when he did was worth the wait.
Work recognitions. Jessie and I have been at our jobs for quite a few years now. And this year it was very nice to reap some rewards for the hard work we’ve each put in. Jessie started working a new schedule that we had only dreamed of, and I was given more flexibility with my work schedule along with a raise. The freedom those things have allowed us have been immeasurable.
La Quinta Weekend. We are still talking about how great this trip was and we can’t wait to go back again. The time relaxing there and the memories we made have been amazing. We hope to go back with family and friends and create more happy moments sometime soon.
