Wishing everyone a happy fourth of July. Hope you enjoy the day with family, friends, food and fireworks.
We hope you guys will be spending Memorial Day with family and friends – celebrating with delicious BBQ’s, sunny beach days and lazy afternoons napping in a hammock someplace.
But most of all, we hope you’ll join us in taking a moment to remember the extremely brave men and women who have served our country and those who continue to do so today. We honor the sacrifices you have made so selfessly to keep us safe. Each and every one of you is a true hero through and through.
Hope to see all of you back here on Tuesday for more S & S fun! TTFN!
Whether you’re a mom, a step mom, a grandmother, an aunt, or a bestie who’s like a second mom, we Sense and Serendipity gals would like to wish you a very heartfelt and happy (read: relaxing and wine-filled) Mother’s Day! Thank you for all you do, all you give and all the endless love you share with the special people (big and small) in your lives. You ladies slay!
Have a fabulous weekend and we’ll see you back here on Monday!
Looking for something to give your mom this mother’s day? Here are some fun items that she’ll love to open and will bring a smile to her face all year long. (And in case you are wondering any of these would make me smile. wink, wink.)
Mason Travel Satchel – I’ve been eyeing this bag for a while. It’s a great travel bag with a a pocket just for shoes. It looks beautiful and it’s vegan. Now you just need to plan an adventure.
Cosmetic Bag – How fun would be to fill a cute bag with some much needed items; chapstick, gum, breath mints, nail file, hair ties? Things a mom would need and use everyday. You can find items at Target or Sephora in the travel section.
Sonix Harper Phone Case – These cases are so unique and fun. I recently purchased this one for my phone and love the flower details.
Book of the Month Club – This is the gift that keeps on giving. BOTM is a monthly membership with book selections that you choose from. They are running a special now that gives you a bonus month to use for yourself or give as a gift.
Tory Burch Gemini Link Tote – Every mom could use a new tote. This Tory Burch tote is the perfect size to throw in a few diapers, fill up with snacks and water bottles, or to take to work. Love that you can wipe it down if it gets dirty and that it’s open so you you don’t have to fuss with a zipper when your hands are full.
Stella and Dot Clutch – Add this beauty to the tote and mom’s got it made. It’s a wallet, a clutch and adorable. Love the way they styled it with jeans and a black blazer.
Cross Bar Birthstone Necklace – I got this necklace a few years ago and it’s one of my favorite pieces. Lisa Leonard makes beautiful handmade jewelry that can be personalized with names, birthstones or initials. I also have a similar piece to this one and wear it often.
Floret Flowers – I have been following Floret on Instagram for a while and love the bouquets and gardens they post. You can order their unique bulbs and seeds online to plant in your own garden and watch them grow throughout the year. Not a gardner? Pick up their book for inspiration.
New Coffee Maker – Starbucks is great but making a god cup go coffee at home is the best. Your mom will thank you every morning when she sips her first cup of coffee. This one has a coffee maker and a hot water dispenser for tea, oatmeal and hot chocolate.
Coffee Mug – We all need a new coffee mug and these are beautiful. The water colors are gorgeous and the gold dots and rim are a nice touch. Yes, please.
We all know that moms would be happy with a card, a phone call or a hug. But go that extra mile to tell mom how much she is loved.
to want something to happen or be true; to expect with confidence
Today we start the week with hope and remembrance. We honor Martin Luther King Jr. for his fight, his conviction and his belief in what is right in the world.
We hope you’ll join us this week.
Welcome, 2017! You couldn’t get here fast enough for many of us. No, like for reals. We hope each and every one of you had a fantastic New Years Eve with your family and friends – whatever it is that you did! And if you’re not in jail today, we call that a win!
Here’s how we Sense & Serendipity gals rang in the new year!
We spent New Year’s at my parents’ house this year with family. We had a yummy dinner, played a fun family card game with the adults and then Taboo with my niece. We counted down to 2017 with the New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and welcomed in the new year with lots of hugs, laughs, Prosecco and confetti. Happy 2017!
This New Year’s Eve was the first time we’ve spent it apart from each other. Bobby travelled with the marching band to Arizona as they participated in the Fiesta Bowl Parade. I stayed home with Andrew and Sofia. NYE for us was celebrated at my parent’s house watching the ball drop on tv. The boys celebrated an hour earlier at the hotel and the celebration included a first place finish for the drum line led by Jordan! They made it home by the afternoon and we celebrated Jordan’s 18th birthday together. All in all, a great start to 2017.
We were lucky enough to escape to Palm Springs for New Years this year which was a much needed getaway after a long hectic month. New Years Eve, we went for a swim followed by a fun lunch downtown at one of our fave spots, Lulu California Bistro. On NYE night, we made pizzas and homemade chocolate chip cookies, and toasted New Years early with the New Yorkers so Jack could whoop it up too with sparkling apple cider. (Casey and I had Prosecco – we ain’t no fools.) Then we cuddled by the fire and watched the delicious trainwreck that was Mariah Carey.
How did you guys spend NYE? Let us know in the comments below!
As we think about our favorite moments from 2016 this blog is one of the highlights. We have written 257 posts and we thank you for reading, liking, commenting, sharing and giving us your feedback. It is evolving and we hope always will be. We love sharing our stories with you.
This is a space for us to collaborate and encourage each other to keep writing. To be honest we just like being together, whether we are hanging out the Adele concert, eating macaroons at Bottega Louise, texting furiously to pick a word for the week or catching up over breakfast that turns into lunch that turns into dinner. It’s a creative sisterhood.
We wish you all the best for a happy and healthy 2017. Can’t wait to see what the new year has in store.
a short indefinite period of time; a specific instant or point in time; importance.
As we come to the end of 2016 we reflect on another year gone by filled with moments that we want to remember and some that we may want to forget. This week each of us will be sharing some of the highlights of this year.
Today we are starting with a favorite moment from christmas.
We had a lovely Christmas in Big D with my mom and stepdad and Casey’s family. My stepdad came down with the stomach flu after this pic was taken and my brother and sister whom we were supposed to see were sick as well, so it was kind of a crazy holiday, but the moments we did get to share were wonderful. Hope you all had a great Christmas too!
It’s been a very special holiday season this year. But by far, my favorite moment has been celebrating Christmas with my family. Each year we get together for a big Camacho Family dinner and gift exchange–all 18 of us–and more than the food and gifts, it’s about spending the time together as a family. We laugh, share stories, make plans and celebrate in the blessing that is our family. I love it. And the memories we create each year keep growing and growing. I am so very grateful to be a part of this beautiful family!
Our Christmas day was filled with some great moments. Getting up at a decent hour to open gifts. Breakfast with my in-laws. Opening up christmas crackers and telling jokes, playing charades, and enjoying the little toys that were inside. Best $8 I spent over Christmas. Opening more gifts. Having chocolate croissants for dessert instead of breakfast because I forgot to let them rise overnight. Having dinner by candlelight and then watching a movie by the light of the tree just the five of us. I may have fallen asleep but I enjoyed every moment of the day.
Looking forward to sharing some of our favorite moments of 2016 this week with you!
We’re heading into the weekend ready to celebrate the holidays with loved ones. We know it will be a chance to create some special memories, drink lots of wine and hopefully have some time to relax a little.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend. And from our families here at Sense & Serendipity to yours, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
I’m a big planner–especially when I travel. Like, we’re talkin’, organize activities, plan our route and budget in the costs, weeks in advance, if possible. Jen can even attest to my travel file folders I’d take on girls’ trips. So when the stars aligned and Jessie and I had three days off together, which we didn’t find out about until a few days before, we decided to take a “spontaneous-for-us” little getaway trip. And La Quinta Resort & Club near Palm Springs was the perfect spot!
I had been years before and couldn’t wait to get back. It originated in the 1920’s as an oasis for Hollywood celebrities to getaway from the hustle and bustle of the entertainment industry. In fact, Frank Capra, who wrote It’s A Wonderful Life, often stayed at the resort to work on screenplays.
What I love is that La Quinta Resort is far enough away that it makes a nice little road trip adventure. But close enough that you don’t end up losing a day for traveling. We loved seeing the snowcapped mountains on our drive and even decided to stop at the Morongo Casino on the way there. Guys, that wasn’t even planned! Cause we’re CRAZY like that!
And once we got to the resort, we were immediately relaxed and immersed in the tranquility of the grounds.
The resort is spread out over 42 acres and the rooms are little casitas in a Spanish style adobe feel. And everywhere you looked there was lush greenery, flowers and beautiful fruit trees. It was even more special to go during the holiday season because they had sprinkled poinsettias and Christmas lights all around, and there was Christmas music playing all throughout the resort, which added to the blissfulness of the trip.
We ended up upgrading our room to one of the Starlight Casitas that are on a second-floor and include the most amazing outdoor space with a fireplace and sectional seating. The mountain views and palm trees surrounding the area were amazing!
Jessie and I talked often about how special it was to getaway for a few days during this busy time of year. We both love Christmas, but to take a little trip and recharge our batteries, reconnect and slow down for a bit, was so great. We read more than we have in months, we took walks and talked and we tried to stay off our phones as much as possible. It helped us to break our daily routines and think about the changes we’d like to make in the coming year. Of course the breakfast bellinis and spa treatments helped.
A holiday getaway is something we definitely want to try to start doing each year. But travel in general is big on our list for 2017. Whether it’s a weekend trip or crossing a city off our travel bucket list, we definitely want to continue our traveling adventures. This holiday trip served as a great reminder of that.
And even if you can only manage to get away for the day, there is something so special about enjoying a new place during this time of year, in the middle of all the holiday madness while everyone else if scurrying to finish their holiday shopping. It’s a great reminder to slow down and take it all in.
We can’t wait to get back to La Quinta when we can. But for now, we feel so re-energized and even more tolerant with things that were frustrating us just the week before. Do what you can this holiday season to just stop and take a moment for yourself. It will make a world of difference!
