I love any chance I get to escape for a few days or longer. We all need that chance to getaway and recharge our batteries for a little while. A break from life and all our to-dos is always welcome.
And when I get a chance to escape, I’d love to say that I’m the type of girl that just throws things into a bag, grabs my keys and goes. Nah…not gonna happen. I’m a planner through-and-through. And more specifically, I need to be ready for anything I might wanna do either while I’m waiting for my flight or in the car heading on a road trip.
So here are a few essentials I like to pack with me in my travel bag:
Travel Tote: I have the Fossil Sydney Tote, which Fossil no longer has but they have lots of other great options. I love this for many reasons–first of all, it’s got a zipper. So I can be sure everything stays in the bag at security. It’s large enough to hold everything I need but not so big that it’s cumbersome. It has slots for my ID, which makes it so much easier to check in and show at security.
Wallet: A girl’s gotta have her wallet handy. You never know what fun mementos you might wanna pick up on your trip.
Book/Kindle/Magazine: For some reason, I think I’m going to be having a reading/studying session, but I always “overpack” my reading materials when I travel. I never know what I might be in the mood to read. A book or Kindle is good for reading on the plane or at a stop on the road. And a magazine is great for reading at the airport when you don’t need to be buried in reading and be ready to hear any boarding announcements.
Water bottle: Gotta stay hydrated. I love stopping by the gift shops at the airport and picking up something to drink after passing by security at the airport. And if we’re on the road, I pack up my BKR bottle with water or a fun beverage.
Lip Balm: Always. Have. Lip balm. This one has been the best so far with so many fun flavors and scents.
Phone/music/podcasts: Phone calls, picture-taking, music and podcasts. Phone is essential. And so is a power cord and an portable battery charger.
Pad and Pen: I’m a writer and a list-maker. Ideas are constantly flowing, especially on a trip. Pen and paper are essential to write things down, especially if it’s a way to remember something from the trip, whether it’s a fun memory, an idea for a future trip, or whatever it might be.
Sunglasses: A good pair of sunglasses is key, especially for us Californians. Protecting our eyes is always important. I just picked up this amazing new pair of RayBan sunnies and I love them!
Snack: You might be planning fun meal rest-stops on your road trip or have grabbed a bite to eat at the airport, but you never know when hunger might strike. I like carrying a just-in-case snack with me when I travel. Protein bars, trail mix and a fruit are always good options.
Toiletry bag: I don’t like carrying a big make up bag with me at any time. But there are a few key items I always like to have on hand like hand sanitizer, nail clippers, an extra hair tie, a small hair clip, dental floss and Advil. You wouldn’t believe it just by looking at it, but this little cutie pouch from Rebecca Minkoff holds all of that and a few other small items.
Reusable bag: I have used this reusable bag more times that I ever would’ve thought. It only cost me $1.50 and it holds so much! It packs up nicely into my bag and has been a life-saver.
